The margarita is a cocktail consisting of tequila, triple sec and lemon juice, often served with salt on the rim of the glass. The drink is served shaken with ice (on the rock), blended with ice (frozen margarita), or without ice (straight up). Although it has become acceptable to serve a margarita in a wide variety of glass types, ranging from cocktail and wine glasses to pint glasses and even large schooners, the drink is traditionally served in the eponymous margarita glass, a stepped-diameter variant of a cocktail glass or champagne coupe. The quintessential American cocktail. Speculation on its origin is varied and uncertain. Stories to that effect will certainly be heard with an interested ear. Originally a 50/50 ratio of gin to vermouth, the amount of vermouth has dwindled over the years to just a few drops or none at all (we choose the latter). The variety of martini cocktails available today is limited only to the imagination of your bartender.
